Director - Rhode Island
Maryellen’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited as a child growing up in the small town of Sharon, PA. She sold garden seed to friends, neighbors and others marketing the idea of growing garden plants from healthy seeds. Years later while raising two young children her family started a small restaurant that expanded with a commercial catering business. She earned her Masters of Science degree from Wheelock College and has spent more than 35 years advocating for high quality programs and services for young children and their families. As a YMCA professional she helped shape a nationally recognized child care program. Under her leadership the Newman YMCA achieved an over 90% satisfaction rating from its’ members for overall excellence, developed new programs and services to meet inter-generational needs. Prior to joining the CWE staff Maryellen worked at Children’s Friend the largest child welfare agency in Rhode Island. She spent over six years raising awareness, funds and volunteer opportunities to benefit needy children throughout the state of Rhode Island. Her desire to recruit volunteers and raise funds benefited thousands of children each year.
