Christine Dolan is not new to the daily challenges of single parenting. From transporting her two active children to karate, dance and gymnastics, this single mom, formerly on welfare, has struggled to do it all. Christine first enrolled in CWEs Community Entrepreneurs Program in January of 2001, overwhelmed by obstacles but eager to turn her own daily commuting challenges into a business to support herself and her family.
With the help of fiscal education and business planning courses, Christine successfully opened Precious Cargo Transportation, Inc. in June of 2002. Precious Cargo is a safe and reliable service transporting children from infants to college students. Boasting annual revenues of $120,000, Christine has hired five full-time and two part-time employees. The success of her business has enabled her to get off welfare, move her family to a better home, and repair her credit and savings. Moreover, Christine now has self-confidence and looks forward to each day with anticipation and excitement.
"Once my personal finances were better planned, it was easier to tackle the business idea. I learned better money habits, such as tracking my spending and paying bills on time. CWE really made me look at my income and create a plan for myself to get from point A to point B. I began to see that there is a light at the end of this tunnel, and maybe even a rainbow if I focus and believe in myself. You learn that baby steps will get you there.
Its amazing to me what a group of talented, caring, and giving staff CWE has and continues to find. I truly would not have gotten to this point without them. It’s comforting and empowering to know that I have such a resource at my fingertips."
