Susan Hunt Stevens

Susan Hunt Stevens is the Founder/CEO of Practically Green, a company that helps people live greener by using technology and social networking to make it simpler to understand green choices and reward and recognize the positive impact of those changes.

Previously, Ms. Stevens spent nine years at The New York Times Company, most recently as Senior Vice President, digital for Boston Globe Media, where she ran Boston.com, one of the largest news and information sites on the web. Under her leadership, Boston.com grew rapidly and won major industry accolades including a New England Emmy. Ms. Stevens’s previous experience at The New York Times included Director of Marketing for NYTimes.com, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, and Senior Vice President, circulation and marketing. She left the company briefly in 2000 to co-found and serve as President for Abridge, Inc, a start-up that did data-mining on email and instant messaging. Ms. Stevens began her career as a management consultant.

She received her MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College; she also holds a BA in Government from Wesleyan University and is a candidate for a masters certificate in sustainable design at the Boston Architectural College.

In addition to CWE, she serves on the board of Inspiring Kids, which helps schools raise funds in a way that promotes environmental stewardship and social philanthropy. She is also on the advisory board for RunMyErrand, a start-up in the service networking space.

Why CWE? I was first introduced to CWE in 2000 as a presenter for Springboard New England and was very impressed with the professionalism of the organization. I didn’t realize at the time how rare it was to be a female leading a venture-backed firm and was shocked at the statistic that less than 4% of all venture funds go to women backed companies. As supportive as I am of helping women in high growth businesses, my heart is very much tied to the work we do with the Community Entrepreneurs Program. I feel very fortunate to have the education and connections that have helped me succeed as an executive and an entrepreneur. For many women, CWE is their first, and often only, source for the education and connections they need to be successful. It is so inspiring to hear their stories and makes me proud to be part of the network that helps women from all backgrounds achieve their version of the American Dream.
