Since opening the South County Speech and Language Center, Kristin’s household income has increased over 75% and her savings have nearly tripled. Even though student loan debt initially deterred lenders and her business partnership fell through, Kristin’s business has flourished with the assistance of the staff at the Center for Women & Enterprise – Rhode Island.
After putting herself through college and graduate school to become a pediatric speech pathologist, Kristin began working as a researcher in a local hospital. On the side, she made house calls to families in need of pediatric speech therapy. Motivated to spend more time with her own family and raise the bar in the quality of pediatric care, Kristin opened South County Speech and Language Center in October 2000. The center evaluates and treats a wide range of communicative disorders in the pediatric population and has helped more than 175 patients.
CWE – Rhode Island not only helped Kristin fine tune her business plan but helped her to secure a $10,000 line of credit in June 2003. With this line of credit Kristin was able to hire a full-time clinician, part-time clinician and part-time office assistant. These additions have increased the company’s projected revenues to $250,000, an increase of $150,000 since last January.
