Anne Barab

Personal Excellence Expert

 

Anne Barab is a personal excellence expert who helps people and companies adapt to change in a positive and productive way. If you think the key to happiness is achieving success, as many people do, then you’ve got it backwards.  Positivity breeds happiness and happiness breeds personal success.

Her best-selling book The Sooner You Laugh The Faster You Heal: How to Challenge the Assumptions that Ruin Your Life is a humorous look at how people create their own dissatisfaction and unhappiness with absurd expectations about how the world “ought to be.” A compelling motivational speaker, she confronts audiences with the truth of how to retrain your brain in order to move into the future with success and optimism.

Anne has walked her personal excellence talk. She’s the former Chief Operating Officer of a $1.5 billion mortgage bank, a recovering politician and a cancer thriver. She’s been married to the same engineer for 43 years and raised three tax-paying adult children who have produced five of the cutest grandchildren in the history of the universe. But her greatest claim to fame is being voted Best-Smelling Mom by her son’s first grade class.

She’s been spreading the positive psychology good news to Fortune 500 companies, associations and nonprofits worldwide for nearly twenty years. Dr. Annabel Beerel

Founder, President & CEO, New Hampshire Women’s Leadership Institute

Dr. Annabel Beerel is an organizational consultant with expertise in Leadership and Change Management and is also a highly experienced executive coach. She is the founder and President & CEO of the New England Women’s Leadership Institute, an organization that helps women advance in their careers and advises on organizational leadership capacity building. The flagship event of the Institute is the New England Women’s Leadership Summit, a major leadership and professional skills development event for professional women across New England.

Annabel also founded a consultancy and A.I. company, Lysia Ltd, in 1985. She grew this to an international business with several millions in revenue over a period of 8 years.

Annabel holds a Ph.D in Comparative Religion and Ethics from Boston University. She holds a Masters Degree in Theology from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has pursued Advanced Leadership Training at the J.F. Kennedy School of Management at Harvard University. Annabel holds an MBA with a focus on Corporate Finance and Strategic Management. She is also a qualified accountant.

Annabel was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then she has travelled extensively and has worked and taught in several countries around the world.

Annabel travels and presents at numerous conferences. She is also the prolific author of articles and books.

Karen Copenhaver

Partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart, a Partner with Social Venture Partners Boston, and the Director of Intellectual Property Strategy for the Linux Foundation.

Karen's expertise is in technology transfer and licensing of intellectual property, particularly in the areas of patent licensing, commercial and open source licensing, and business models.

As a leader in Informational Technology Law, Karen is listed in The International Who's Who of Internet & e-Commerce Lawyers, Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America and among the top 50 women Massachusetts Super Lawyers. She was named the "Top Woman of Law" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2013, and Boston's "Lawyer of the Year" for Informational Technology Law by Best Lawyers in 2014.

Nancy Dube

With a long career in Human Resources,  Nancy owns and operates Dube Consulting .  For the past 5 years she has built human connections through Human Resources - Resumes -Social Media. Nancy is a Consultant for First Beacon Business Advisory Group.   Nancy also teaches Social Media and Internet Strategies  virtually and at Worcester State University. Nancy is a graduate of Becker College and acquired her Human Resource Certification through Assumption College.

Nancy works with small businesses to provide solutions for their human resource needs. Areas of focus include HR audits, compliance, employee handbooks, employee relations, onboarding, terminations, staffing, in-service trainer and LinkedIn expert. As an outsourced HR Consultant, Nancy puts her experience to work for you.  She is known as a LinkedIn expert, embracing LinkedIn back in 2003 while hiring for senior level positions.

Nancy is a member of SHRM; Chair of the Central MA advisory board for the Center for Women and Enterprise; sits on the advisory board for the Leominster Credit Union. Nancy is active in the community. Susan C. Hammond

Susan advises CEOs and boards of small to mid‐size companies and nonprofit organizations on ways to improve financial management and governance. She is the author of the Advisory Board Kit: A Comprehensive Guide to Establishing an Advisory Board.

A recognized expert on advisory boards, Susan has been an active advisory board member and facilitator since the early 1990’s. Currently, she serves on advisory boards of The Marble Collection and Bentley University’s Micro‐Finance Initiative. Her previous advisory board experience includes the Business School at Bridgewater State University, Bentley University’s Women’s Leadership Institute, Fulfillment Plus, Career Investment Strategies, and several others. Susan also serves on the Executive Committee of Women in the Boardroom and on the Nonprofit Board Committee of The Boston Club.

Susan has served as a contract CFO/COO and strategic advisor to technology companies, professional service firms, and nonprofit organizations. While serving as contract CFO for Fuller Craft Museum, she worked closely with the Director to re‐energize the board, recruit new members, and improve governance practices.

Susan is a co‐founder and former board member of the South Shore Women’s Business Network and the Center for Women & Enterprise. In 2006 she received the President’s Call to Service Award which recognizes individuals with 4,000 hours or more of lifetime community service.

She holds a CPA certificate from the State of Massachusetts, received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Northeastern University and a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley University. Susan Keller has been advising businesses and their owners for over 25 years as a business advisor and lawyer. Susan has extensive experience providing executive-level business expertise and hands-on managerial and operation guidance to facilitate company growth. Through Susan’s work in the angel and venture capital community, she saw a need for an organization to support women in the venture capital and private equity space -- and co-founded the Women’s Association of Venture & Equity. Susan is a member of CWE’s Board of Directors as well as CWE-Rhode Island Center Advisory Board.

 

Sandy Lish

Principal and Co-Founder, The Castle Group

Sandy Lish, Principal and Co-Founder, The Castle Group, is responsible for the PR and events firm's business development and strategic management, with particular emphasis on PR division clients. Sandy leads her teams to provide service and results for both privately held and publicly traded clients. She also counsels clients on crisis and transition communications, and leads media and presentation training workshops around the country.

Sandy has received the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for Entrepreneurship, WBENC Women's Business Enterprise Star award, and CWE Emerging Business Star award. She has been named a Top 10 PR Specialist by Women's Business six times, and a Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40, and has led Castle to win the BBJ "Best Places to Work" award twice.

Under Sandy's leadership, Castle teams have won numerous PR and business awards. Sandy regularly shares her expertise with the media and frequently presents to professional, academic and non-profit audiences.

 

Jim Matheson

Partner, Flagship Ventures & President/CEO, Oasys Water

 

Jim focuses on creating and funding new ventures in the sustainability, clean technology and special technologies (e.g. nanotechnology, materials and technology systems) sectors. He has over 20 years of technology and leadership experience across a variety of organizations and roles designing, engineering and deploying sophisticated technology platforms. He formerly served as a Navy F-14 & FA-18 pilot including duties flying over 200 combat missions from an aircraft carrier, as a TOPGUN Instructor and leading the Navy’s Adversary Program. Jim also gained broad experience in emerging aircraft and weapons system design, testing and procurement, and was deeply involved in many of the military’s IT modernization initiatives.

Jim serves on the boards of Flagship portfolio companies Advanced Electron Beams, Black Duck Software, Frontier Energy, Mascoma Energy Corporation, Midori, Novomer and Oasys Water and is Chairman of the Board of Genstruct and Ze-gen. He was previously a director of e-Dialog, Yantra and Flamenco Networks. He spearheaded Flagship Venture’s role as the Department of Energy’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Jim is on the Board of New York-based hedge fund Black Horse Capital, the National Board of the Clean Tech Open, and the Center for Women & Enterprise, and is actively involved in numerous entrepreneurial and venture capital organizations including the Department of Energy's Biomass Technical Advisory Committee, CLF (Conservation Law Foundation) Ventures, New England Clean Energy Council & Clean Energy Center, the MIT Enterprise Forum, The Deshpande Center, and The Service Academy Business Network.

Jim earned an MBA from The Harvard Business School, a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy and retired in 2008 as a Commander in the US Naval Reserves.

Randi Nichols

Randi Nichols is a Chief Human Resources Officer with two decades of experience leading U.S. and international health care and technology companies through transformational changes. She most recently served as Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive VP, Operations and Support Services at Fallon Clinic.

Randi has line operations leadership experience that has translated into trusted CEO and board-level partner status on enterprise-critical business initiatives.

Wendy Pease

Wendy owns Rapport International, a language services company offering translation and interpretation in 100+ languages. Prior to this, she served in senior management positions in international marketing and business development. She has an MBA from Dartmouth College, and a BA in Foreign Service from Penn State. Wendy has lived in Mexico, Taiwan and the Philippines and is passionate about languages, cultures and communications.

A technologist at heart, Angela connects people with technology in a humorous and non-intimidating manner. Angela is Founder and CEO of LiveWire Collaborative, a social media consultancy. She has spent the past 20 years in high-tech and brings extensive experience leading global teams and products to market. Angela has spoken at the Massachusetts Conference for Women and was featured on the TV series, Our World. She holds an M.S. in Administration and B.S. in Computer Engineering. @angelapitter

 

 

Susan Loconto Penta

Susan oversees the delivery of consulting services. With 25 years of experience as a management consultant, entrepreneur, senior executive and engineer, she is able to achieve dramatic results for her global clients by leveraging the disciplines of product development and product management to improve their financial performance.

Susan has authored numerous articles on product development, entrepreneurship and innovation. She is an Adjunct Faculty member of Northeastern University’s College of Business and the University’s Executive Education program where she teaches courses in entrepreneurship and new product development. Susan has received multiple awards including the “40 under 40” award by the Boston Business Journal and the Ichabod Washburn Young Alumni Award for Professional Achievement from WPI.

Susan is an active supporter of non-profit organizations with a particular focus on education and entrepreneurship for disadvantaged populations. In addition to the Center for Women & Enterprise, she is Treasurer and Trustee for Belmont Day School, Trustee and Past Chair of Schools for Children. Susan has recently retired from her service as a director of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) as well as from her role as President of the New England PDMA chapter. She is a founding board member for WPI’s Collaborative for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and serves as Program Committee Chair for WPI’s Department of Management Advisory Council.

Susan holds a BSEE degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from The CASS Business School in London, England. An aspiring chef, Susan lives in Belmont, MA with her husband and two teenage daughters.

Chris Sheehan

COO, TrueLens & Former Managing Partner, CommonAngels

Chris is Chief Operating Officer at TrueLens, an innovative customer intelligence company.   Prior to TrueLens, he served as Managing Director at CommonAngels, an early-stage venture fund and well-known angel group. There he led investments in Carbonite (IPO: CARB), Blaze Software (acquired by Akami), Insightix (acquired by McAfee), Crashlytics (acquired by Twitter), Xconomy, among other companies. Previously, Chris was a venture partner at Industry Ventures.

A Cum Laude graduate with a degree in Marketing from Bridgewater State University, Lisa has spent over two decades in the sales and marketing arena. She is a certified Image Consultant and owns two businesses, Shorr Success (formerly Shorr Style) and Secure Future Tech Solutions.  She has delivered Professional Development and Corporate Branding workshops and seminars across New England. Her articles on style, career development and IT, have been published in notable magazines and newspapers including PC World, Providence Business News, GoLocalProv, Rhode Island Small Business Journal and Trade Secrets Magazine.

 

 

Juli Sinnett is a cautious optimist who is not afraid of a challenge.

She is a leader and a salesperson.

Juli is the principal and co-founder of New Normal Life, a company whose mission is to break the cycle of complacency where poor health is the norm. New Normal Life’s vision is to empower patients to be accountable members of the healthcare team to lead to sustainable healthy lifestyles and better outcomes.

Before starting New Normal Life, Juli was a principal and co-founder of SwervePoint, a B2B communications merchandising firm where she was responsible for the company’s business development, client services teams and vendor relations.  Juli has spent her career working with global brands and led her company to win the Boston Business Journal “Best Places to Work” award three times and to a #37 debut on Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Top 50 Fastest-Growing Women-Owned/Led Businesses” in the nation.

Prior to SwervePoint, Juli held sales training and senior sales management positions with Brown-Forman and CYRK.

Juli serves on as the Chair of the Membership Team for Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, as a Board Member for the Center for Women and Enterprise and works on various non-profits including the Medfield Theater Society.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Juli holds a BA in design from Bowling Green State University. She lives outside Boston, Massachusetts with her husband David, and their two children. 

 
Connie Wright

Managing Director, Accountability

Connie Wright runs LAMP! a Leadership and Mentoring Program   at Stanford University and is Managing Director at AccountAbility with more than 30 years of accounting, consulting, and professional services management experience. Connie is an expert in accounting process improvement, and assists firms in mergers and acquisitions and going public.

Connie began her career as a CPA with Deloitte & Touche and became a senior manager of its audit practice, working with clients in the United States and Germany. While at Deloitte & Touche, she was instrumental in establishing The Resources Connection, a professional services firm. In 1998 she established the firm’s Boston office and serving as the managing director, built its New England practice to more than $10 million in annual sales. In addition to the board of directors for Center for Women and Enterprise, Connie is on the boards of directors of the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp and the Boston YWCA. Connie is chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Mentor Program task force. She is a graduate of Stanford University.
