President & CEO, Center for Women & Enterprise.

Boston, MA – The Center for Women and Enterprise (CWE) has been named the winner of the 2014 Women’s Business Center Service Excellence award for Massachusetts and the New England region, according to an announcement by Robert H. Nelson, Massachusetts U.S. Small Business Administration District Director.

The Women’s Business Center Service Excellence award is presented annually to recognize particular centers for excellence in providing training and counseling to clients. The Center for Women and Enterprise was judged on the following criteria: (1) meets or exceeds the service center’s goals for long-term counseling, new businesses started, capital infusion, and client satisfaction; (2) creates and implements innovative programs; (3) participates in the professional development of counselors; (4) is acknowledged by the local small business community as an advocate for advancing entrepreneurial development.

On October 23, 1995, the Center for Women & Enterprise officially opened in Boston with the help of a founding grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Operating out of donated space at Northeastern University and three full-time staff members, the center has since grown and CWE staff members and hundreds of volunteers now serve approximately 3,000 clients every year. Over 30,200 women (and men) have come to CWE since its inception.

“CWE support for the local small business community in general, and for woman-owned businesses in particular has been impressive,” said Nelson. “This center works to support programs that suit every need, and offers training courses day and night, and in English and Spanish to help make their services more accessible to those who need them most.”

Executive Director Susan Rittscher was honored at an SBA awards breakfast along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2014 winners at Lombardo’s on May 13, 2014.

About the Center for Women & Enterprise
Established in 1995, the Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE) is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for women entrepreneurs and women in business to increase their professional success, personal growth, and financial independence.

As New England's leading organization for women entrepreneurs, we work hard to ensure that all women, regardless of their economic status, are provided access to our programs and services. CWE offers scholarships to disadvantaged clients while fostering influential relationships for successful business women at the other end of the financial spectrum.

The Center for Women & Enterprise provides education, training, resources and connections to women (and men) through three locations in Boston, MA; Worcester, MA; and Providence, RI.

In addition, CWE is the New England affiliate for Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), serving as their certification arm for women-owned businesses. WBENC Certification is nationally recognized in helping established women business owners access new corporate contracts with organizations that are actively seeking supplier diversity.
